Expiration

The title chosen for this body of work is Expiration. The film I shoot with is chemically expired but still holds a quality of substance, even as it loses its life. There is physicality to film in the way the colors fade and morph, and that physical nature becomes synonymous with the memories it holds. As the process of shooting film moves closer to extinction, with the departure towards digital cameras as the primary way to capture images, there is a certain quality of the photographic image that fades with it. In truth every moment is a passing one. As unstable dyes are always in a state of change, there seems to be a bond to the subjects they capture. Both color negative and transparency film hold unique characteristics even when past their date. To expire can also mean to lose a breath, to exhale. When I photograph there is a moment of stillness and concentration as if my eye could hold the moment in its place. I think every photographer experiences that moment when you are ready to release the shutter and you breathe out slightly to avoid camera movement. In this respect, the act of photographing itself becomes a kind of expiration. I believe there is an atmosphere in these photographs that relates back to the process and the film. The physicality of the expired film and the act of photographing merge to create images that call to mind both absence and presence.

Flickr site is now organized and I feel really good about it.

Since my website has only had one photograph since 2005, I am really happy I can share through flickr a collection of prints I have done from 2005 to present. Until I can take my website back from my boss who owns my domain name and won't give me the passwords to edit the site it sits still.. but thats ok!

I'm going to start posting images I am thinking about. Maybe one every other day or every week. I am sending 15 rolls of film, shot through the summer up until now including a found roll of Kodachrome i found still in a camera my mom bought me from a yardsale... to Dwayne Photo in Texas and I am so excited to see what I have!

Two of my photographs were chosen to be on a tshirts for Art in the Age's spring and fall collection 2010!

It is going to be a great New Year.

This week at Silicon has been really hectic. We have been getting prints together for the

Old City Stroll & Sidewalk sale.

We will have some great prints for sale. I picked about ten artists to show;

Kathryn Moran

are just a few to mention. the work ranges from 15 - 200. averaging about 50.00 for limited edition prints.

the work looks beautiful and whether we have success in sales or not it was really fun getting a group of work together .

perhaps to foreshadow curatorial studies for my future...

I will also have my favorite "Bambi" piece available.
